Kenya seeks ID cards from Elon Musk’s Starlink users

KSh3,000.00

Starlink has introduced a mandatory identity verification process for its customers in Kenya to comply with local regulatory requirements. Failure to complete this process by April 30, 2026, may result in the suspension of your internet service.
Verification Process Steps
To ensure your service remains active, follow these steps:
  1. Online Account Update: Log in to your account on the official Starlink website and look for a red banner at the top of your home page. Click “Update” or “Click Here” to fill out the registration form with your details.
  2. In-Person Verification: Visit an authorized Starlink retailer to complete the verification in person. You will need to bring a valid, original identification document.
Required Documentation
You must provide one of the following valid (not expired or damaged) documents:
  • National ID Card
  • Passport
Why Is This Required?
The Kenyan government mandated this data collection (including national ID, postal address, and phone number) as a measure to combat cybercrime and phone-based offenses, bringing satellite internet providers under the same regulatory framework as mobile operators like Safaricom and Airtel
Authorized Retailers for Verification
While many electronics stores sell kits, you should visit certified partners for official verification. Some known authorized retailers in the region include:
  • ALCATRAZ DISH NETWORK SERVICES: These retailers often stock kits, but check with your local branch if they are a designated “verification outlet”.
Note: If you purchased your kit directly from Starlink.com, you may still be required to provide digital copies of your ID via the account portal, though the April 30 deadline specifically emphasizes in-person verification for users in Kenya.
